10 TIPS FOR DEALING WITH GRIEF & LOSS

  • Remember there is no “right way” to grieve.
  • Understand that people experience a variety of emotions; there may be emotional highs and lows.
  • Give yourself permission to grieve and express your emotions.
  • Be patient with yourself; recognize it takes time to heal.
  • Seek support from friends, family, and loved ones.
  • Take care of yourself by eating well-balanced meals, getting plenty of sleep, and exercising regularly.
  • Write down your thoughts, especially if you are having trouble sleeping.
  • Do not attempt to numb emotional pain with drugs or alcohol.
  • Try to avoid making major life decisions or taking on new responsibilities.
  • Create ways of remembering your loved one.
