The Counseling Center is committed to serving all students who are impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic physically, mentally, emotionally, financially, and spiritually. We recognize that stress, fear, and anxiety are normal reactions. These feelings can at times intensify bias and discrimination toward a particular group of people, as we start worrying about our own safety and well-being. Individuals of Asian descent, both domestic and international, have been subjected to racism and xenophobia in our country and communities during this public health crisis. Research supports that experiences of discrimination can have significant psychological impact including anxiety, self-doubt, confusion, loneliness, and depression, as well as physical ailments. It is imperative that we do not allow fear and bias to guide our actions. As a college community based on inclusivity, we ask that you join us in rejecting hate and marginalization in all its forms. We encourage enhanced community support by responding to others with empathy and compassion.
