Dr. Forbes first came to Lafayette in 1988 and was appointed director in July 1998 after serving as assistant director since 1992. She earned her B.A. in psychology from Oberlin College and her M.S. and Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Florida, where she had a minor in higher education. She is a licensed psychologist in Pennsylvania. Dr. Forbes sees counseling as a collaborative process where the student and counselor work together to establish goals for change that are meaningful and realistic. She enjoys helping students to identify and use their strengths and interests to develop solutions for the challenges they face, and she will often use personal and interest inventories to help students gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships with others.
